Garrett Love of Montezuma, Kansas, was elected chairman of the National Sorghum Producers board at its annual August board and budget meeting for a 2026–2028 term that began Oct. 1.

The leadership shift comes as Kansas and Texas growers continue to anchor U.S. sorghum production across the sorghum belt.

"It is a great honor to step into this role and serve the growers who make up National Sorghum Producers," Love said. "Sorghum has been an important part of not only my own farming operation, but also the operations of thousands of farmers across the sorghum belt. I understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing producers today."

"I'm grateful for the leaders who have built this organization and for the opportunity to work alongside our growers, staff and industry partners," he added. "I look forward to building on that work and making sure sorghum continues to have a strong voice as we look toward the future."

What is Love's policy background?

Love farms in southwest Kansas, growing sorghum, wheat, corn and soybeans and feeding cattle. He served in the Kansas Senate from 2011 to 2017 and chaired the chamber's Agriculture Committee. Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue appointed Love to chair the USDA Farm Service Agency Committee for Kansas, a post he held from 2017 to 2021.

That record combines state-level farm-policy work with direct FSA state-level oversight from 2017 to 2021.

Who was elected vice chairman?

Scott Frazier of Chapman Ranch, Texas, was elected vice chairman. Frazier produces sorghum, cotton and corn and raises cattle. He has served on multiple community and state-level boards.

Frazier graduated from the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership Class XIV and represented Texas agriculture at a NAFTA hearing in Montreal in 2018. For more than two decades, he has engaged in agricultural advocacy in Washington and Austin.

Gov. Greg Abbott appointed him to the Texas Agricultural Finance Authority.

Amy France of Scott City, Kansas, will serve as past chair.

Which new directors joined the board?

The board elected three new directors:

  • Verity Ulibarri, Clovis, New Mexico
  • Tom Gregory, Petersburg, Texas
  • Cody White, Lubbock, Texas

Who concluded their board service?

Three directors finished their terms in September. Past chairman Craig Meeker of Wellington, Kansas, plus Marc Adams of Lubbock, Texas, and John Browning of Plainview, Texas, will be recognized at the board's December annual meeting.

What does the full NSP board look like?

The 12-member board of directors now includes:

  • Garrett Love, chairman, Montezuma, Kansas
  • Scott Frazier, vice chairman, Chapman Ranch, Texas
  • Amy France, past chair, Scott City, Kansas
  • Dustin Borden, Gruver, Texas
  • Barry Evans, Kress, Texas
  • David Drinnon, Vega, Texas
  • Jim Sipes, Manter, Kansas
  • Tom Willis, Liberal, Kansas
  • Verity Ulibarri, Clovis, New Mexico
  • Tom Gregory, Petersburg, Texas
  • Cody White, Lubbock, Texas
  • Larry Richardson, ex officio, Vega, Texas

What does the leadership change signal for growers?

The new triumvirate pairs a Kansas chairman with a Texas vice chairman and a Kansas past chair, a balance that tracks the geographic concentration of the U.S. sorghum crop. Love will work with his new officer team and director cohort as the sorghum industry tracks planted acreage and basis levels ahead of the 2027 crop decisions.
